THE VERTEBRAE CHAIR
The vertebrae chair explores the anthropomorphic synergy of the human body’s structure and its continued motion. The dimensions of the chair’s spine directly relate to the vertebrae, and its wooden ribs flex to accommodate human nuance and variability. The spine and each rib vary slightly in thickness and weight. The chair is inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci’s anatomical drawings that reveal how the vertebrae is the chassis for the human body. Eadweard Muybridge’s early photographs of human figures in motion and The Ichthyo: The Architecture of Fish: X-Rays (Smithsonian Institution) also inspired its design.
